Women Empowerment – What does it really mean?
You will read the term women empowerment everywhere – in articles, books, on social media and even in TED Talks but what really does it mean? Most of us will say helping women is their empowerment.

Women Empowerment – what does it really mean?

The Genesis Foundation and Dr. Suman Arvind have been empowering women in the community and helping them take a stand in their lives. Education is one way of women empowerment and this includes literacy, vocational skills as well as educating women about their body, health, nutrition and family rights. Higher studies and vocational skills help women gain suitable employment and restore their social standing. This not only gives them a contributing role in the family but also a place in decision making. We believe this is truly empowering women – not simply helping them once or twice but making them capable enough so that they do not require help anymore.

As Dr. Arvind says, “Women are truly empowered when they do not remain inter-dependent anymore but are completely independent in their choices and decisions.”
