5 tips on how to remove negative thoughts
Everyday lives, the constant stress of work and home life and often the imbalance between the two leads to negative thoughts and hampers our mental health. Unfortunately, we manifest these mental health issues physically and soon it begins to affect us as psychological and physical illnesses. If you often feel like there is no purpose to life and cannot see anything good or productive in your daily struggles, you need to put in some effort to remove such negative thoughts. Here are 5 things Dr. Suman Arvind suggests you start with, to foster better mental health and subsequently, improved physical health.

How to remove negative thoughts

  1. Walking: Exercises are the most helpful for your mental health as well. Walking or jogging are the best form of exercise since these involve your large muscle groups and offer stress relieve. If you exercise regularly, you are bound to feel less anxious since workouts release endorphins that not only improve your mood but are also your body’s natural pain killers. If you are not the walking sort of person, join a group for cycling, yoga, dancing, Zumba – anything that keeps you happy and the endorphins going!
  2. Supplements: There are several natural and herbal supplements that help with relieving stress and anxiety. However, it is important that these are taken only after consultation with your doctor since they could interfere with any medication that you are currently on. Vitamin B supplements are particularly known to alleviate stress and anxiety as well as balance out any depressive moods. Omega-3 fatty acids and Valerian are some other supplements that are helpful too.
  3. Nature and its benefits: Nature is a natural healer and the beauty around you calms the body and mind. Even if you view scenes of nature, it tends to reduce blood pressure, muscular tension, heart rate and the production of cortisol, the stress hormone. So go for a walk in the park, watch the sun set or watch a nature documentary when you feel worried or stressful.
  4. Aromatherapy: Several studies show that aromatic oils and scents have soothing effects. Using natural aromatherapy products help reduce anxiety and improve your sleep as well. You can use them in any form including scented candles, bathing salts, steamers, lotions or diffusers. Not only do scents like lavender, rose, orange blossom and geranium give your house a welcoming fragrance, they also help you stay stress and anxiety free.
  5. Do not cut off from your friends: When feeling depressed or anxious, we tend to hide some more behind technology and cut off from our friends and well-wishers. Intrinsically, humans crave for company and need support. It is scientifically proven that social connects add to our happiness and lead to a healthier and longer lifespan. Make a list of friends who support you, guide you and will stand by you in times of stress and anxiety and reach out for help when needed.
Anxiety and stress affects different people differently; some of us even have a subconscious way of dealing with it. It is imperative to keep in mind though that when there is a lack of nutrients or micro-nutrients in your body, it becomes that much more difficult for your body to heal from any mental or physical trauma. It is important to know when it begins to affect your everyday life and get timely help and support.
